Information on current work investigating sites for development of new homes in Cheltenham to help address local housing needs issue.

We have achieved the government's highest ranking for service delivery and future prospects, which allows us to build new social housing in Cheltenham. This enables us to help towards meeting the borough's demand for affordable housing.

As part of our wider 'new build and regeneration programme' we have investigated several garage locations, which have development potential due to the general lack of demand for garages across Cheltenham.

As part of this work we have held extensive consultation with residents ward councillors and other key stakeholders. Where possible we have incorporated feedback and reviewed and revised drawings. As a result, drawings and plans for four garage locations have been developed, these include:

  • Burma Avenue and Imjin Road,
  • Malvern Street
  • Brook Road.

These sites will be subject to ongoing considerations and proposals are being prepared for submission for planning permission.

We can also confirm that plans for the following sites have been reviewed and postponed:

  • Burton Street
  • Elm Close (Worcester Street)
  • Marsland Road.

This decision has been reached due to a number of factors which came to light through our consultation with local residents and other stakeholders and include: suitable access, available space for the development, parking and other neighbourhood issues.

Paul Stephenson (Assistant Chief Executive), CBH said; "Although development of some sites has been postponed, it may be that they are reconsidered at some point in the future in order to meet local housing need. We will ensure that all residents are informed and communicated with in any future developments."
